Arbutus Ridge Golf & Country Club

Facility Type: Public              Number of Holes: 18

Would you like to see a view of Arbutus Ridge from a helicopter?

Description:
Right from the opening hole, Arbutus Ridge proves that good gold is an intriguing combination, made up of equal dashes of beauty and the beast. The Victoria-area course, which opened in 1987 and was designed by Bill Robinson, is one of the prettiest in the country. The club straddles Cobble Hill, above Satellite Channel and the Southern Gulf Islands, and looks out to the snow-capped peak of Mount Baker.

But don't be lulled by the sweeping vista. Arbutus Ridge's opening salvo is one of the toughest first holes in the province, so there is no time for opening-tee jitters. The 372-yard, par four begins with a daunting drive to a fairway with bunkers left and right. The approach shot drops downhill to a lengthy green.

The course ends as it started with pretty views but gut-check golf holes. The seventeenth is  a 214-yard, par-three that plays to a peninsula green. Water swirls around three sides of the green and the other edge is lined with the ominous out-of-bounds marker. The eighteenth is similarly challenging. The 426-yard, par four plays up to a landing zone with bunkers on either side of the fairway. The long approach shot is uphill to a three-tiered green that has little room for bailout. There is a pond on the left and bunkers on the right. Even Tiger would have trouble going low on this finishing hole.
